Bio

Dearbhla Kelly discovered yoga in1994 while studying philosophy in Amsterdam. She returned to her hometown, Dublin, Ireland, to complete her M.A. and deepen her practice. In 2001 she relocated to Chicago to pursue a Ph.D in philosophy and teach yoga. These days she has homebases in Los Angeles and Berlin and teaches yoga, neuroscience and philosophy workshops in the USA and internationally.

Currently a dedicated Ashtanga practitioner, Dearbhla's asana teaching style is also deeply informed by her studies of Forrest Yoga, Anusara, Yin Yoga, Vinyasa flow and Yoga Nidra. (For a list of trainings click here) A skillful and intuitive teacher, her classes are invigorating yet relaxing, challenging yet nurturing, engaging not just body but also mind and spirit. She believes that yoga is a technology designed to connect you to your deepest self, to your radiant body of bliss and love. Her lilting Irish accent and Dublin wit make her classes uniquely enjoyable.

Dearbhla is particularly skillful at integrating insights from current science to give a more comprehensive understanding of how and why various types of yoga, from asana, pranayama and meditation, to chanting kirtan, help us find increased joy, wellbeing and freedom. She has lectured on the biochemistry of bliss at Bhaktifest, Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, Antwerp , Berlin, Sydney and Melbourne and has published articles exploring the subject in Yoga Journal / Germany and LA Yoga Magazine.
